Can I still use an old phone in the United States?
Only over Wi-Fi. The US has no 2G or 3G left (T-Mobile closed the last 2G network on 3 August 2026), so a Nokia needs Wi-Fi, like the E71 or N95, to get online.
2G in the United States Off
Gone. AT&T closed 2G in 2017 and Verizon around 2020. T-Mobile, the last one, shut it down on 3 August 2026.
3G in the United States Off
Gone. AT&T from February 2022, T-Mobile on 1 July 2022 and Verizon by 31 December 2022.
What this means for a classic phone
With no 2G or 3G left, classic phones can only get online over Wi-Fi. Models with Wi-Fi, such as the Nokia E71, E72, N95, 701 and C3-00, or the BlackBerry Curve 9300 and Bold 9700/9900, can still run KeyAgain at home or anywhere with Wi-Fi.
Before you buy a SIM
- Ask the operator (or the network behind your brand) whether it still runs 2G, and until when.
- A cheap pay-as-you-go or data SIM is usually enough: KeyAgain needs a little mobile data, not a big plan.
- You may have to type the operator’s data settings (APN) into the phone by hand.
- If the phone has Wi-Fi, it can get online at home whatever happens to the mobile networks.
