2G in Spain On
Still running, with no national date. Reports differ on Movistar (2026–2027). Orange (MasOrange) has set December 2030. Vodafone has not announced a firm date.
3G in Spain Partly
Vodafone closed 3G in 2024 and Movistar reportedly in 2025. MasOrange plans to finish on 31 December 2027.
What this means for a classic phone
Classic phones still get online over 2G in Spain. MasOrange has announced the latest date so far (December 2030), so a SIM on its network is worth considering if you want your phone to keep working for years. Check Movistar’s plans before choosing it.
Before you buy a SIM
- Ask the operator (or the network behind your brand) whether it still runs 2G, and until when.
- A cheap pay-as-you-go or data SIM is usually enough: KeyAgain needs a little mobile data, not a big plan.
- You may have to type the operator’s data settings (APN) into the phone by hand.
- If the phone has Wi-Fi, it can get online at home whatever happens to the mobile networks.
