Can I still use an old phone in Switzerland?
Only over Wi-Fi or 3G where it still runs: Switzerland switched 2G off in 2021. A Nokia with Wi-Fi, like the E71, can still get online at home.
2G in Switzerland Off
Switched off in 2021.
3G in Switzerland —
Our source guide doesn’t list 3G dates for Switzerland yet. Ask your operator.
What this means for a classic phone
With no 2G, a 2G-only phone can’t get online over the mobile network. Phones with Wi-Fi, such as the Nokia E71 or the BlackBerry Curve 9300, can still run KeyAgain at home; phones with 3G may work where an operator still runs it.
Before you buy a SIM
- Ask the operator (or the network behind your brand) whether it still runs 2G, and until when.
- A cheap pay-as-you-go or data SIM is usually enough: KeyAgain needs a little mobile data, not a big plan.
- You may have to type the operator’s data settings (APN) into the phone by hand.
- If the phone has Wi-Fi, it can get online at home whatever happens to the mobile networks.
